Hey guys! As the semester is coming to a close and graduation is approaching, I wanted to talk to you guys about having an outstanding work ethic during you internship. This is something I have been struggling with towards the end of my intern experience; not because I haven’t enjoyed my time but because life is crazy this time of year. I have had to do a lot of reflecting within the past month to regroup and remind myself the purpose of going into the office every week.
The ways that I have been keeping myself on track are re-reading my goals that I set for myself at the beginning of the semester, reflecting on the professional relationships I have made, and remembering what I have learned throughout the course of the semester.
Reading your goals:
This is a great way to see how far you have come all semester! This gave me a lot of motivation to finish strong. Being able to see how much I have progressed made me want to work even harder to produce the best pieces of work I could to add to my portfolio.
Reflecting on your experiences:
While creating a great portfolio should be a focus during your time at your internship, creating meaningful connections with your supervisors is really important too. I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to learn more than I could have ever imagined. The end of the semester is a great time to look back on what you have learned and the relationships you have formed. Your supervisors are there to mentor your throughout your process. Don’t be scared to ask any work related questions you have.
Remember what you’ve learned:
Look at everything that you have done during your internship as a learning experience. Some things may have seemed tedious or may not have been your favorite assignment but they are all learning experiences during your time with your company. If you’re like me and about to graduate then this will be a great way to take what you have learned and apply it to your interviews for post-grad jobs. Anything that you have been taught can translate into experience that can be useful in your choice of careers.
Overall, just be really grateful for your experiences and for all of the people that you have met along the way! Remember that having an internship can always give you a leg up when you are searching for a post-grad job. Keep pushing and remind yourself that the semester is almost over.
Good luck everyone!
